Local antibody delivery to the gastrointestinal tract

The aim of the project is to develop an oral administration system for therapeutic antibodies for the local treatment of gut diseases. Due to physico-chemical charachteristics, therapeutic antibodies may get inactivated through proteolytic enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract and therefor for the moment they have to be administered intravenously. An oral formulation would be cheaper for the health system and enhance the welfare of affected patients. This oral formulation could be used for the therapy of Morbus Crohn and Colitis ulcerosa.
