Epedemiology and combat of Anoplocephala perfoliata in Lippizanern in Piber

Equine cestodes, mainly Anoplcephala perfoliata was recognized as causal reason of 1/3 of colic in horses during the last time.
Benzimidazoles, which were used to combat nematodes, has also a limited effect on the affection of cestodes in horses and led to a certain reduction on the burden of cestodes in the stock of horses. Due to the increasing appearance of resistances in horse's small strongylids against Benzimidazoles, there was an augmented use of Avermectins which did not show an impact cestodes. This gave a rise to the burden of cestodes in the stocks. Since decades, the presence of A. perfoliata in the stand of Lippizaner Horses is known. The excellent organization, the relatively high number of horses and the good cooperation allow the perfomance of a widespread study to register the epidemiology of the infestation of cestodes in order to age groups, feedlot-characteristics and deworming groups. Even during their stay on the alps, the animals have been tended individually to ensure an accurate number of excrement and blood samples.
The time point of the maximal infection-pressure and the best plan of attendance under these conditions should be clarified.
