Development of a gastroscopic model for the evaluation of new drug delivery systems

Abstract
Developing and establishing a gastroscopic animal model for the administration of substances will result in benefits for testing oral formulations. Despite the high similarity of anatomical constitution of the GI-tract of humans and swine, the time for emptying the stomach in pigs is much longer and therefore orally administered substances stay longer in the stomache compared to humans. Therefore this factors have to be excluded either with fasting or with the direct administration of substances into the gut using surgical or as in this project gastroscopic techniques.
