Cultivation and breeding of primerose (Primula veris, Primula elatior) for crude drug production

Crude drug of Primula ('flos' as well as 'radix') originates at the moment almost exclusively from wild collection mainly in Eastern and Southeastern Europe with the known problems of no differentiation of the Primula species.
The scope of this project is to evaluate traditional cultivation techniques and to compare them to other methods. Another aspect of optimization will be the study of influence of organic fertilizer on yield and quality of the drug. Furthermore a collection of populations should give information about biodiversity and breeding for cultivation, and quality related criterias should enhance homogeneity and quality of the produced raw material.
