Proteome analysis of the rat

Abstract
During the last years our work has focused on the investigation of rat proteins, first the proteome of rat serum, then of rat biological fluids in general. The main steps of our work have been:
a) the definition of reference maps for rat serum, urine and cerebrospinal fluid proteins resolved by 2-DE
b) evaluation of quantitative changes in rat serum proteins as a function of strain , age and sex of the animals
c) evaluation of qualitative and quantitative changes of rat serum proteins in two experimental models of acute and chronic inflammation,
d) evaluation of the qualitative and quantitative changes in rat serum proteins after administration of anti-inflammatory drugs to affected and unaffected animals
e) the definition of changes in serum and urine proteomes of SHRSP (spontaneously hypertensive stroke-prone rats) as a function of the progression of the pathological condition
In view of the current very large use of rats in biological research we feel that further model evaluations may add substantial informations to our reference map, yet accessible on the internet.
