Project(s): Microscopic characterisation of poisonous plants

Abstract:
This study documents the microscopic anatomy of 24 decorative and indoor plants. Microscopic preparations of epidermal structures of leaves, petals, stems, bulbs of 24 monocotyles were made and investigated in polarised and non-polarised light. For documentation, microphotographs were taken of the slide preparations. Comparing the slides showed that plants could not be specifically identified from their microscopic anatomy. Classification of plants can be achieved under certain conditions using specific characteristics as exclusion criteria. Within plant families some specific features were also identified. Cellular inclusion found did not allow correlation between incidence of inclusions and degree of toxicity.
