Abstract:
In this thesis “Feeding of breeding mares: A comparison of theory and practise” the supply of the breeding mares is examined. Ration calculations are provided for each mare and afterwards compared to the ideal value by assistance of average and standard divergence. Above all, the mineral substances are analysed. In practise, the current data of the pregnant mares tend to be significantly lower than the results of the lactating mares, which are undersupplied with digestible raw protein and digestible energy. In spite of different feet rations with different feeds and mineral substances mixtures, the minerals calcium, potassium, iron and manganese occur in all feet rations in clearly increased amounts. It could be demonstrated that the oversupply of phosphorus reaches the upper critical range, the supply of potassium and manganese, too. All other feed components are in a range that can be tolerated by the horses. The investigation points out that the mares do not suffer from under- or oversupply. Short periods of slight deficiency are compensated by the mares without problems. It becomes clear that the foals do not suffer from shortage even when the mares are undersupplied. The breader´s task is to have a close look into the optimal supply of their mares because over- or undersupply stresses their condition unnecessarily and compensatory processes are not unlimited possible. There is the advice for the breeder that they should enforce soil analyses or analyses of their roughage in periodical intervals for ration creation, because the influence of the mineral substance solely on the roughage must not to be underestimated.
