This diploma thesis is about improving the site assessment checklists for pig sites for the Tiergesundheitsdienst Steiermark. The original checklists are based on yes/no decisions. There is room provided to write down comments, instructions and regards. It is a good system to evaluate individual farms, but it is difficult to compare the results from different farms. The object of this work is to find assessment values to evaluate the different categories in a fourstage
evaluation scheme. This shall provide improved objectivity of the assessment and a better comparability between different farms. This way of site assessment is extremely time-consuming. This is the reason, why it is difficult to implement such a system in practice, especially for routinely assessment. It is possible to assess a farm with this checklist for special questions. For example the checklist could be used when a farm wants to take part on a quality program.
Several examples have been chosen to compare the four-stage evaluation model with the original checklists.
