967 serum samples of 111 farms collected from January 2002 until November 2003 in Burgenland, Lower Austria, Styria, and Upper Austria were analysed by haemagglutination inhibition test against 9 different swine influenza A virus strains of the subtypes H1N1, H3N2 and H1N2. The new subtype H1N2 was detected in Austria for the first time. Seroprevalences (H1N1 33.5 %, H3N2 14.5 % and H1N2 12.8 %) and seroincidences (H1N1 13.2 %, H3N2 5.6 % and H1N2 2.7 %) of different subtypes and antigen types of influenza A viruses in Austrian swine farms were investigated and associations with disease symptoms were analysed.
