The aim of this study was to measure the physiological gait of 16 cows without clinically detectable lameness with a three dimensional accelerometer, in order to gather reference data for physiological gait that can be used for detection of lameness. The day after the measurement the cows underwent functional claw trimming and a thourough claw investigation to be sure that the selected cows were really free of lameness. After the measurement the collected data was transferred to a laptop via bluetooth and were calculated with Excel®. It was possible to determine a connection between the frequence of motion cycles and the acceleration data and also to assess a section where data of cows with no lameness are highly supposed to be (95% CI). Especially the up and down acceleration data and the back and forward acceleration data highly fitted into this interval. The measurement process to get the data and the process of calculation was a very easy and practicable under field conditions. Lameness measurement with a three dimensional accelerometer could be a future method to detect lameness earlier.
