Like other popular pets, tortoises suffer from wrong nutrition and inappropriate care if
their owner is not sufficiently informed about their special needs. This can lead to
unnaturally fast growth of the animals. Their size and deformation of the carapace
makes the estimation of a subjects age difficult and the selection of the appropriate
treatment dangerous. This diploma thesis questions if there are radiograph
detectable characteristics in the skeleton, which are age and not size or diet related.
