Abstract:
The aim of the study was tounderstand the impact of the horseshoe on the slip resistance of different types of equine surface and to compare the used materials with each other.A new developed measuring method was used and the resultsof 34 different examination materials were descriptive compared. As a result of this examination, significant difference have been foundbetween equine stable and riding surface. Gras and rubber surface achieve the highest values. It became clear that the use of certain shoes is not recommendablefor some surfaces and the used testing hoofs does not significanttly differ.Ithas been shown that under certain conditions natural gras surfacesare more slip-proof than artificial riding surfaces made from sand. The slip resistance of gras surfacesis heavily dependent on external factorsthenother materials. It requires further research to understand the impactthat specific surface components have on the slip resistanceand how the qualities of the surfaces change in the course of time.As a conclusion it can be said that in future still a lot of research is necessary to optimise equine stable and riding surfaces.
