Abstract:
The focus of this work is on the nutrition of broodmares in the Northern German federal state Schleswig-Holstein. On the basis of questioning twenty breeders, it was determined to what extent external information and recommendations from literature and other resources are incorporated in the everyday life of the nutrition of broodmares. The question was how intensely the breeders are dealing and grappling with the nutrition of their broodmares. Thereby it should be ascertained how comprehensive it is dealt with possible difficulties and what kind of arrangement of inspection, analyses and aids are utilized. The current work outlines the fundamentals of the nutrition of broodmares. This is, beside the species-appropriate husbandry, ideal serving or insemination management and veterinary monitoring of the pregnancy, accountable to come as close as possible to the goal of breeding every year one viable foal from each broodmare.
