Isospora suis is an intracellular parasite and the causative agent of neonatal porcine coccidiosis. The severe weight reduction in diseased animals causes economic losses in swine production. Despite its economic importance the knowledge of the interaction between I. suis and the host cells is limited. The aim of this study was to investigate this interaction in a suitable cell culture model and to evaluate different methods for analysis of the expression of swine leukocyte antigens (SLA) in the host cells after infection. Therefore, intestinal porcine epithelial cells (IPEC-J2) were infected with I. suis and the expression of leukocyte antigens was analysed.
