Lameness in pigs is of great economic importance. There are several pathogens in
pigs which can lead to arthritis. Beside the infectious diseases there are many other
diseases which can cause lameness. Between 2008 and 2010 32 pigs with the
preliminary report of lameness were examined at the Clinic for Swine at the
University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. The aim was to develop a questionnaire for
a survey in Austrian pig farms, to evaluate the extend of clinic relevant lameness in
local pig production.
