Besides embryo flushings ex vivo ovum pick up presents an alternative technique for embryo production. Recovered cumulus-oocyte-complexes are the basis for in vitro production of embryos. Endoscopic ovum pick ups were performed in hormonally untreated ewes. The aspiration of the follicular fluid was carried out with a 5 mi syringe combined with a 0.9 mm canula. Alltogether 134 ewes served as ovum pick up-donors. An average of 5.7 follicles per animal were punctured and 58% of the oocytes were collected. In this study a simple method for endoscopic oocyte aspiration was described. The technique used allows the recovery of a high percentage of oocytes of hormonally untreated ewes and gives the possibility to produce a high number of embryos without superovulation of the donors.
